Color is inevitably associated with the memories that define the emotions evoked by colors. The color looks charming, attractive or disgusting, boring and avoidable. The history of one’s life gives colors to the perceptions.

Pier Paolo Pasolini (1975) wrote a lecture on the curtain because the language of objects is more real than that of culture (Il linguaggio delle cose, discorsi di cose).

Pale yellow is a difficult color for myself, a color that is almost impossible to use in my environment. Why does that pale pastel shade, also called canary yellow, evoke such a resistance? Currently, yellow snow is visible in the yard. Well, not very pleasant.

However, the deepest and the most personal memories remain strongly influencing us. For weeks, the news has revolved around the treatment of the elderly. As the elections approach, all politicians have their say about the acute theme. For good reason, the subject is important.

The sun had already melted the snow and looking out of the window spring appeared in anticipation of new life. Dad laid lean in the hospital bed. The bones of the face sharpened the features, the arch of the nose rose proudly, and the eyes sank between the bones of the cheeks into dark valleys. It was Easter. The father was dressed in light yellow pajamas, kind of chicken colored. The pajama buttonholes were too big and the shirt didn’t want to stay on at all. Was it a joke? Dad would never have worn that color. However, dad joked that he was like an Easter chicken. Two days later, there was no father.

That yellow is a hard color, I can’t imagine buying that color of clothing. I try to tolerate myself by buying pale yellow flowers.

The Post-it notes in the title are another painful color connotation, though not comparable in depth to the previous one. Each of us of working age has participated in various Post-it-note-happenings in creative innovation workshops and development sessions. They have been glued to countless flipchart papers and each organization has its own cemetery (storage) for them. Thanks to the post-it notes, many good ideas have seen for a moment a daylight and then after the glue has dried crumbled to the floor and oblivion.

The history of post-it notes is part of the great narrative of inventions and innovations. Dr. Spencer Silver, who originally was developing a strong adhesive, accidentally found a poorly adhesive glue in 1959, a solution without a problem. This is quite common, especially in technological development. It is a great invention, but to what it could be applied. Thanks to the companies, there are things around us whose use and life cycle are very limited. It wasn’t until the 1980s that Art Fry got its name on the invention of the tag, which was also sued by another inventor, Alan Amro, claiming recognition as well as millions of dollars in compensation for the innovation of the world-conquering tags. That genuine and original tag is pale yellow. The new bright colors do not give the ideation tags any more taste for life.

Väri on väistämättä yhteydessä muistoihin, jotka määrittävät värien herättämiä tunteita. Väri näyttäytyy hurmaavana, houkuttelevana tai vastenmielisenä, ikävänä ja välteltävänä. Elämän historia värittää havainnot.

Aurinko oli jo sulattanut pälviä ja kevät näyttäytyi ikkunasta uuden elämän odotuksena. Isä makasi laihana sairaalasängyssä. Kasvojen luut terävöittivät piirteet, nenän kaari nousi ylväänä ja silmät painuivat poskien luiden väliin tummiin laaksoihin. Oli pääsiäinen. Isälle oli puettu vaaleankeltainen pyjama, sellainen tipun värinen. Pyjaman napinreiät olivat liian suuret ja paita ei meinannut pysyä lainkaan päällä. Oliko se pilaa? Isä ei ikinä olisi sellaista väriä pukenut ylleen. Isä kuitenkin vitsaili olevansa kuin pääsiäistipu. Kahden päivän päästä isää ei enää ollut.

Tuo keltainen on vaikea väri, en voi kuvitella ostavani sen väristä vaatetta. Siedätän itseäni ostamalla vaaleankeltaisia kukkia.

Otsikon Post it -laput ovat toinen kivulias värimielleyhtymä, joskaan ei syvyydessään verrattavissa edelliseen. Jokainen meistä työikäisistä on osallistunut erilaisiin Post it -lapputalkoisiin luovissa innovaatiopajoissa, workshopeissa ja kehittämistuokioissa. Niitä on liimailtu lukemattomiin fläppitaulupapereihin ja niille on jokaisessa organisaatiossa ihan oma hautausmaa. Kiitos lappujen, monta hyvääkin ideaa on nähnyt hetkeksi päivänvalon ja sitten liiman kuivuttua rapissut lattialle.

Post it -lappujen historia on osa keksintöjen ja innovaatioiden suurta kertomusta. Alkujaan teholiimaa kehittänyt tohtori Spencer Silver löysi vahingossa huonosti tarttuvan liiman vuonna 1959, eli ratkaisun ilman ongelmaa. Tämähän on varsin yleistä, varsinkin teknologisessa kehityksessä. On hieno keksintö, mutta mihin sitä voisi soveltaa. Kiitoksena yrityksistä ympärillämme on härpäkkeitä, joiden käyttö ja elinkaari on kovin rajoittunut. Vasta 1980 Art Fry sai nimiinsä lapun keksimisen, josta käräjöi myös toinen keksijä Alan Amron vaatien saada tunnustusta sekä miljoonien dollarien korvaukset maailman valloittaneiden lappujen innovaatiosta. Se aito ja alkuperäinen lappu on haalean keltainen. Uudet kirkkaat värit eivät saa lapputalkoisiin yhtään enempää elämänmakua.
