Jokaisen postauksen teemana on väri. Väri on elämän suola ja sokeri, vanilja, kaneli, kurkuma, timjami, valkopippuri. Väri on makuasia ja suuri nautinto. Väri on aina jossain ja sillä on aina kaveri. Toisinaan ne riitelevät keskenään, siis materiaali ja väri ja sen kaverit, toisinaan ne elävät harmoniassa ja sulassa sovussa. Ja kyllä varoitus, tämä blogi saattaa sisältää latteita kielikuvia ja laimeita elämänohjeita. En kuitenkaan aio sisustaa kotiani niillä. Kirjoitan ja kuvitan muistoja, mielleyhtymiä ja huomioita väreistä. Sen teen visuaalisten aineiden opettajan silmälasien läpi. Katson kulttuuri-ilmiöitä, muotia, esineitä, luontoa ja toisinaan katse kääntyy sisäänpäin.

Toimin useamman vuosikymmenen muotoilun koulutuksessa lehtorina ja taiteen tohtoritukinnon suoritettuani yliopettajana. Ehdin nuoruusvuosinani myös opiskella taideteosten restaurointia Italiassa Firenzessä. Nykyisin minulla on ollut aikaa toimia Icfin Intercolor Finland ry:n puheenjohtajana. Mausteena yhdistyksen toiminnassa ovat värientusiastit kotimaassa ja ympäri maailmaa. Kiinnostavia keskusteluja sekä uusia ideoita, kaikkea väreistä, maailmasta ja elämästä yleensä.

On Color and Its Meaning

Each post is centered around a single theme: color. Color is described as the seasoning of life—its salt, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, turmeric, thyme, and white pepper. It is a matter of personal taste and a profound source of enjoyment. Color is present everywhere and is never alone; it always has a companion. Sometimes, these companions—color and material—may clash, while at other times they coexist in perfect harmony.

About the Blog

A gentle warning to readers: this blog may occasionally offer clichés, metaphors, or overused life lessons, though I have no intention of decorating my home with them. The purpose here is to write and illustrate memories, associations, and observations about color, always through the lens of a visual arts teacher. I observe cultural phenomena, fashion, objects, nature, and sometimes turn my gaze inward.

The Name: Väri värinä

The blog’s name, ”Väri värinä,” carries a double meaning in Finnish. ”Väri” translates to ”color,” while ”värinä” can mean ”vibration” or ”as color.” Thus, the name can be understood as either ”color vibration” or ”color as color.”

Personal Background

I reside in Tampere, Finland, and have spent over thirty years teaching design in Hämeenlinna. Since my retirement in 2023, I have been able to devote my time fully to my passions—art and color. My activities now also include serving as president of ICfin Intercolor Finland organization and working on color trends in international meetings. In 2010, I completed a doctoral thesis on aesthetics in art education at Aalto University, and many years ago, I studied art restoration and conservation in Florence Italy.
